Case Study: Long-Term Yellowing Resistance in Transparent STP Adhesives for Glass Bonding

Case Study: Long-Term Yellowing Resistance in Transparent STP Adhesives for Glass Bonding

2026-10-20

Customer Requirements

For transparent glass-bonding adhesives, maintaining clarity over time is a key performance requirement. Although an adhesive may appear clear immediately after curing, gradual yellowing can affect the appearance of the bonded assembly during long-term use.

For this U.S. project, the customer sought an STP polymer-based adhesive solution that could bond glass while maintaining transparency and resisting yellowing over an extended period.

RISUN’s Material Solution

RISUN addressed the requirement through targeted improvements to its STP polymer raw material. The development focused on supporting transparent adhesive formulations with better long-term color stability while maintaining the bonding performance required for glass substrates.

Rather than treating transparency as an initial appearance requirement alone, RISUN focused on the long-term visual performance. The advanced STP polymer and special formulation provided the customer with a new solution for developing a transparent glass-bonding adhesive with enhanced resistance to yellowing.

Maintaining Transparency Over Time

Long-term color stability is particularly relevant when an adhesive remains visible after glass bonding. Yellowing can compromise the appearance of the finished product, even when the bond itself remains intact.

Through the effort of our R&D and technical department, RISUN developed an STP polymer solution to address this challenge. The resulting material supports the development of transparent adhesives designed to maintain their appearance over extended periods, helping adhesive manufacturers address the durability requirements of glass-bonding applications.

The final performance of a transparent adhesive also depends on the complete formulation and service conditions. Resin selection is therefore an important part of achieving the required balance between adhesion, transparency, and long-term color stability.

Conclusion

This U.S. case demonstrates RISUN’s ability to tailor STP polymer from raw materials to specific adhesive performance solution where long-term resistance to yellowing is a central consideration.
